We’re excited to share that a photograph Kate's project has been recognized in The Lancet Group Highlights 2025 Photo Competition.
As part of Kate’s project within KOSHESAI, older adults participated in a Photovoice project, using photography to share their experiences of healthy and unhealthy ageing. One participant, Rasha Chiota, created a striking image titled “Silenced”, showing his mouth taped shut. He reflected:

“As if ageing is a crime… Decisions started to be made behind my back… Witchcraft rumours began circulating… My health drastically declined.”
Rasha’s photo powerfully illustrates the emotional and social impact of exclusion, highlighting how cultural, economic, and social shifts can leave older adults feeling invisible or undervalued.
As populations age globally, Rasha’s story points to the importance of challenging ageism, promoting inclusion, and respecting the rights and dignity of older people.
