CREATE PhD Programme - new round of funding for UK applicants

CREATE has a new PhD Programme and a slight name change - Africa-Asia Health Research Training Programme.

We are funded by Wellcome for another 5 years of recruitment, with a total of 25 UK fellows to be recruited over that time. Recruitment is now open for the first year of this new Programme.

We have some new partners this time around, and our focus has expanded to Ghana, South Africa, and Pakistan, as well as our original trio of Zimbabwe, The Gambia, and Uganda.

Our UK partners are Brighton & Sussex Medical School, University of Bristol, University of Sheffield, and University of Southampton.

Our overseas partners are Aga Khan University, Pakistan, Biomedical Research and Training Institute, Zimbabwe, MRC The Gambia, MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit, University of Ghana, and University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Wellcome's new focus is on Discovery Research and all interested applicants should focus their research projects on this.

The scope of the research is deliberately broad and should cover 'studies across fields and disciplines that lead to new knowledge of life, health and wellbeing’, incorporating disciplinary breath.

Projects that range from the fundamentals of biology to the development of new methods, tools and technologies will be within remit. We will also fund population health studies exploring the social, ethical, cultural, political, economic and historical contexts of human health. We encourage inter-disciplinary research ideas and welcome enquiries and applications from those who have had fewer research opportunities so far, but who can evidence great potential for and commitment to a clinical academic career.
